How I Work

How we work together is just as important as what brings you to counselling.

At the heart of our work together is the counselling relationship we build. My hope is that, over time, this becomes a place where you can slow down, reflect on your experiences and explore what feels important to you.

You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about or where to begin. Some people come to counselling with a clear understanding of what has brought them there, while others simply know that life does not feel the way it used to.

Wherever you find yourself, we can begin there.

You don't need to have it all figured out

There is no right or wrong way to come to counselling.

You might arrive with lots to say, or you may find it difficult to know where to begin. Some sessions may feel emotional, while others may feel quieter or more reflective.

Some days you may leave feeling lighter, while other days may leave you with more to think about. There is no expectation to talk about anything before you feel ready. We will work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, allowing trust to develop naturally over time.

It's okay if it takes time

Building trust does not happen overnight.

For many people, it can take time to feel comfortable enough to share the parts of their story that feel most difficult. There is no expectation that you tell me everything in the first session, or even the first few sessions.

As trust develops, my hope is that you feel able to bring whatever feels important, knowing that your experiences will be met with respect and understanding.

My role

I believe you are the expert in your own life.

Rather than offering advice or telling you which direction to take, I will work alongside you with openness and respect, creating space to explore whatever feels important to you.

Together, we can make sense of your experiences, deepen your understanding of yourself and reconnect with your own strengths, values and what matters most to you.

What you can expect from me

When we work together, my commitment is to offer a space where you can:

  • Feel heard and accepted for who you are.
  • Take things at a pace that feels right for you.
  • Bring whatever feels important, without pressure or expectation.
  • Feel respected and supported throughout our work together.
  • Explore your experiences honestly and openly.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of yourself and what matters most to you.

My approach

Every person has the capacity for growth when the right conditions are present.

My practice is grounded in the person-centred approach. Rather than seeing people as needing to be fixed, I believe life experiences can sometimes leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves or uncertain about the way forward.

Counselling offers more than a place to talk. It offers an opportunity to slow down, understand what you have been carrying and reconnect with your own inner strengths.

For many people, counselling is not about becoming someone different. It is about gently coming home to yourself, one step at a time.

Start with a conversation

If something here feels familiar, you are welcome to get in touch. A free 15-minute consultation is a chance to connect, ask questions and see whether counselling with me feels right for you — with no pressure to go any further.
